Amar Shah qualified as an Optometrist at Aston University back in 1985 when he had more hair!

He gained experience throughout the optical world and developed his areas of professional interest - eyecare ophthalmology, contact lenses, refractive surgery and sports vision. In 1993 he joined Brian Vousden Opticians where he became a partner.

In 2004 Amar made the decision to travel the world and on his return in 2005 realised his vision to set up his own practice. The aim was to open a practice offering stylish frames in an environment that was both welcoming and contemporary. He’s achieved this with a classic identity that has a modern twist using bold colour and illustration. The range of frames and sunglasses have been specially chosen. “We’ve introduced slightly lesser known, more quirky brands to offer something a bit more individual“ says Amar.

Since our opening we have become the destination to come to for interesting, distinguished spectacles in the South West.

On a professional level Amar has been a key opinion leader for Bausch and Lomb, and Johnson and Johnson, two of the largest contact lens companies in the world. He has carried out clinical trials for several new contact lens products before they come to market. Being involved in the early development of products allows Amar to keep his patients informed of what developments are imminent, and sometimes even get them before they are launched countrywide.

Amar has always taken continuing education seriously and has passed exams with Bristol PCT to be accredited to check for Glaucoma and Raised IOP. He has also lectured locally and nationally to colleagues... He doesn’t think too many people fell asleep!

Amar has been involved in testing with the British Olympic Team, the England Rugby and Cricket Teams his beloved Arsenal and is official Optometrist to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

His motto... ’see and be seen’.
